Private line in Microsoft Teams Calling

In the recent Microsoft 365 roadmap the feature ID 181616 mentions an upcoming calling feature: private line. It enables a Teams calling user to be reachable directly for incoming calls. The rollout should start in December 2023.

Conclusion, opinion and summary

That’s a nice and welcome addition. Currently you can configure a workaround for some kind of private line on a SBC, Teams unassigned number, an auto attendant or a call queue by providing a different number to a person that way. But that’s a workaround and does not deliver the same experience compared to a real private line. With a workaround you get a second number to Teams calling person but no bypass of delegates, admins or what the user has configured for call answering. Furthermore there is no different ring sound for calls on the second number configured by a workaround.

The new private line feature for Teams calling users makes the previous workarounds obsolete and offers a more sophisticated and common calling capability.
