Microsoft Teams Phone Device Update

Teams Phones are getting an update probably starting in early May 2024. The update should be completed by the end of June 2024 based on the current Microsoft 365 message center notification MC713374. Originally it was planned to start in early April till the end of May.

What’s new in the Teams Phone update?

The update will added the following features:

  • User can decide on how a second call is handled. Users can choose these (busy) options from the (second) incoming call screen (if the Teams calling admin has set (busy options in the) calling policy accordingly).
  • Call forwarding option on phone devices. Teams calling admins can turn on this feature from the Teams admin center, and users can set it up from their phone’s home screen.
  • Phone PIN enforcement and device lock option for admins and users. Teams Calling admins can require users to set or change their phone PIN and users can lock their phones from the home screen menu.
  • Survivable Branch Appliance (SBA) support for calls
  • Teams phones without touch display get option for auto restart and un/park calls
  • New calling contact calling menu to
    • … call a mobile phone, work or other phone number of a contact
    • … call on behalf of a specific caller ID (from a call queue)
