New Look for the Microsoft 365 App Starting Mid-January 2025

In this post I like to make you aware of the upcoming change regarding the Microsoft 365 app. As highlighted during Microsoft Ignite 2024, the Microsoft 365 app is getting a makeover. To better reflect the focus on Copilot and AI integration, the app will be renamed and rebranded to Microsoft 365 Copilot starting in mid-January 2025. This update includes significant changes to the user interface to support future AI-first experiences.

New Look for the Microsoft 365 App Starting Mid-January 2025

Key Changes

  • Header Removal: The top app header will be removed; tools like user profile, settings, and feedback will now be located in the bottom left toolbar.
  • Search Box Placement: The search box will move to the Homepage, with no change to its functionality.
  • Toolbar Alignment: All apps in the left toolbar will be aligned to the top, with AI-rich experiences like Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat and Copilot Pages grouped together.
  • Logo Display: The organization logo will no longer be visible in the app, although it will remain in other Microsoft 365 apps.
  • Removed Features: The ‘My Day’ feature and ‘Help me create’ feature will be retired, but AI-powered document creation will be integrated into the Copilot tab.

Rollout Timeline

  • These changes will be gradually rolled out starting mid-January 2025, so not all users will see the updates at the same time.

Action Required

  • No action is needed from admins or users, but it’s recommended to inform users about these updates for a smooth transition.
