Recently I read the news that Microsoft Purview will provide the option to configure retentions for Teams call logs. That’s interesting because this can help you to get more control on how long call logs are stored. So in Microsoft Purview Data Lifecycle Management (DLM) we probably see the option to configure retention (so deletation as well) for Microsoft Teams call logs starting in late April 2026.
What’s the current situation regarding Teams call logs? Well, actually they are stored indefinitely which might cause a compliance gap. That’s why the new retention support with Purview DLM helps you to mitigate the compliance issue if you have the compliance requirement to retain and/or delete call logs for or after specific period of time.
At the time of writing this the feature was not available for testing in my environment. Also the documentation was not updated to reflect the upcoming change.
If you plan to implement this you should be cautios and also at least keep in mind that this could have an impact on your current reporting solution which uses call logs. That’s why I would recommend to check how the current call reporting solution works and what’s the source and if data for call reporting is stored elsewhere and so on.
