Planner for Shared and Private Channels in Microsoft Teams

A few days back i held a training sessions for IT Pros regarding Teams and I was asked about the integration of Planner, later on I read this. So I the training I conducted at that time I had to answer different to what I would answer now. Finally, Microsoft Teams will get Planner also for private and shared channels in Teams. Did you miss this? I know a lot of people which are missing a complete Planner integration no matter which type of Teams channel is used. When will it become available? Well, as far as the current message center notification tells we have to be a bit patient and might see it to get available in May 2026. Microsoft even says that the rollout is scheduled for mid-May to end of May 2026.

It’s interesting that when you add a user to the planner, they can work in the planner, but when you implement MTO and add a user from another tenant via cross-tenant synchronization, that user—even though they have a license in their home tenant—receives a message stating that no license was found, and you have to incur the cost of additional licenses.

Thank you for sharing this regarding MTO. That’s good to know. I have a lab with MTO but have not yet tested the planner scenario which you described.

Inviting a guest is no problem, but after implementing MTO, there’s an issue when the guest becomes a member 🙂
